Rearing Alpaca Cria

Veanavite® Farmyard is suitable to feed to Alpaca Cria. Limited information is available on feeding alpaca cria. The following can be used as a guide.
  • Feed adequate colostrum as soon as possible after birth. Ewe colostrum is a suitable alternative if necessary
  • Supply ad-lib access to good quality soft hay and a starter ration suitable for alpaca cria from week two
  • Observe for digestive upsets and monitor growth rates carefully
  • Alpaca cria will generally stop drinking milk when they are full – do not force feed except under veterinary advice
  • Alpaca cria should grow at an average rate of approximately 200 –300 grams per day over the entire milk feeding period
Mix Veanavite® Farmyard Milk Replacer at the rate of 200 grams per litre of warm water and feed in accordance with the following table:

  • If feeding beyond week 12 feed at same rates as per week 5 -12.
  • Wean off milk when cria are consuming a minimum of 250 - 300 grams of starter pellets each per day and adequate roughage.
