Rearing Alpaca Cria
is suitable to feed to Alpaca Cria. Limited information is available on feeding alpaca cria. The following can be used as a guide.
Feed adequate colostrum as soon as possible after birth. Ewe colostrum is a suitable alternative if necessary
Supply ad-lib access to good quality soft hay and a starter ration suitable for alpaca cria from week two
Observe for digestive upsets and monitor growth rates carefully
Alpaca cria will generally stop drinking milk when they are full – do not force feed except under veterinary advice
Alpaca cria should grow at an average rate of approximately 200 –300 grams per day over the entire milk feeding period
